Documentation required to apply for an internship through Zeal Ltd. includes a detailed CV and a motivation letter in English, a passport size photo, copy of a valid ID card or passport and Zeal’s Registration Form. A Police Conduct is required for some sectors such as Child Care. It is important to clearly highlight skills, competences and relevant work experience, if any, and the desired tasks and learning outcomes from the work placement. Medical, health and physical conditions are to be detailed in the application.
Working hours in Malta are of 40 hours, 5 days a week, from Monday to Friday, however this does not apply for certain sectors such as tourism, hospitality, catering, event management and call centres, as these may require working flexible hours or on shift basis, and to work over weekends and Public Holidays, nevertheless not exceeding 40 hours of work per week, 5 days a week. Lunch breaks are not part of the 40 working hours.Work attire varies according to the sector. The dress code in offices normally consists of business attire such as trousers, shirt, a blazer and smart shoes for males, and a knee-high skirt or trousers, shirt, a jacket and smart shoes for females. Certain sectors such as law firms and banks would require more formal wear such as a suit and tie. Sectors such as hospitality, catering, laboratory, sport, technicians and mechanics would require more specific attire or a uniform. The dress code required by the host company would be communicated to the participant upon confirmation of the work placement.
To prevent malware in the company’s network and for protection of the company’s intellectual property and data protection, the participant would be required to bring their own laptop to work, and might be allowed limited access to the company’s data.Work ethics and compliance with the host company’s regulations is of utmost importance. The participant is expected to respect the company’s policies and procedures at all times, including working hours, hence to be punctual for work. In case of sick leave, the participant is to report sick directly with the mentor at least one hour before the expected start of the working day, and present a medical certificate on the next working day. A medical certificate can be provided from the Health Centre of your locality. Unauthorised absenteeism is not permitted and can lead to disciplinary action or dismissal.

The participant must be in possession of a valid travel and medical insurance cover before travelling. The insurance cover should include, but not limited to medical expenses, medical assistance, personal property / business equipment, personal injury protection and personal liability.

Participants are to also ensure that they are in possession of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Persons issued with a European Health Insurance Card will be eligible to free or reduced-cost emergency medical treatment during temporary visits in EEA countries and Switzerland. The purpose of the EHIC is to facilitate access to medical care during the holder’s temporary stay in an EU Member State, and to speed up reimbursement of the costs incurred.

Applying for an EHIC is free. A separate application form is needed for each person, with the exception of children under 16. The European Health Insurance Card:
is not an alternative to travel insurance. It does not cover any private healthcare or costs such as a return flight to your home country or lost/stolen property,
does not cover your costs if you are travelling for the express purpose of obtaining medical treatment,
does not guarantee free services. As each country’s healthcare system is different services that cost nothing at home might not be free in another country.
